Event Summary | This course, which runs annually but with a different focus, provides an opportunity for Phonics Leads in primary schools to come together to consider current research on the teaching of phonics, share good practice, ask questions and network with colleagues from other schools. |

Event description | The exact focus for the session will be decided nearer the time to ensure the material presented is up to date and relevant. It may include: • Exploration of recent research into the teaching of phonics and early reading. • Discussion around what is going well and areas of difficulty • Review of recent Ofsted inspection reports and any relevant issues which are raised • Practical ideas for teaching • Strategies to support for pupils who are struggling with phonics • Discussion about resources, including decodable texts If there are specific areas delegates would like to explore or success stories to share please contact kathy,ewers@junipereducation.org in advance of the session. Colleagues who are new to the role or who do not attend our termly English Subject Leader updates are likely to this course particularly useful. |

Additional information | Trainer Biography - Kathy Ewers, Education Adviser (Teaching&Learning) With a background in English subject leadership and special needs, Kathy specialises in phonics, spelling and reading offering a range of CPD courses in these areas along with bespoke support for schools. She is an accredited trainer for a number of interventions including FFT Wave 3 Literacy, Write Away Together,Talking Partners and Inference Training. Kathy is also an experienced moderator and a Basic Skills Quality Mark assessor. Displayed fees are subject to VAT |

Learning outcomes | Phonics leads will have a greater awareness of what is happening in other schools and nationally re the teaching of phonics and, within that context, have the opportunity to reflect on their own practice and plan next steps for their school. | ||||||
